Kunimitsu Takahashi’s Nissan R380-II lines up at the start of the 1967 Japanese Grand Prix (photo above). This is the fourth edition of the race held at Fuji Speedway, long before it counted towards the Formula 1 World Championship.

Four Nissan R380-IIs were entered by the factory and driven by Kunimitsu Takahashi, Yoshikazu Sunako, Moto Kitano and Hideo Oishi. They were the natural favorites, but had to concede defeat, after an intense battle, to the Porsche 906 driven by Tetsu Ikusawa (photo below).

This 1967 Japanese Grand Prix, contested to the very end, was decisive for the popularity of motorsport in Japan, which has since become a country of great manufacturers and great motor racing enthusiasts.
