The young Brazilian Roberto Moreno has always struggled financially, never securing a full-time seat in a top team.

Winner of the Formula Ford Festival in 1980 and British F3 champion the following season, he made his F1 debut at the 1982 Dutch Grand Prix where he replaced the injured Nigel Mansell in Team Lotus but failed to qualify.

He would wait many years before returning to Formula 1 through the back door, with AGS (6th at the 1987 Australian GP), Coloni, Jordan, Andrea Moda or Forti, but he had his moment of glory with Benetton on the podium of the 1990 Japanese Grand Prix alongside his compatriot Nelson Piquet for a legendary double (photo below).
