Unsightly nose
Strange and unsightly nose added to Chris Amon’s Amon AF 101-Cosworth DFV, probably to generate extra downforce on the front of the car, during practice for the 1974 Monaco Grand Prix.
The New Zealander achieved the feat of qualifying his light blue single-seater in twentieth position out of 28 participants, but will not start the race due to a brake failure during the warm-up.
The Amon AF 101, designed by Gordon Fowell for Chris Amon Racing for the 1974 Formula 1 season, was characterized by titanium torsion bars, a fuel tank placed between the driver and the engine and therefore, a very forward driving position.
Driven by Chris Amon throughout this 1974 Formula 1 season and by Australian Larry Perkins (at the German Grand Prix only), the Amon AF 101 was neither fast nor reliable and the team, in financial difficulty, was forced to close its doors permanently at the end of the season.
