de Adamich resists
Andrea de Adamich (Alfa Romeo T33/3) tries to contain (photo above) the attacks of Gérard Larrousse (Porsche 908/03) during the Targa Florio 1971, raced on the Piccolo Circuito delle Madonie, 72.0 km long, in Sicily.
Andrea de Adamich, partnered with Dutchman Gijs van Lennep at the wheel of the T33/3 prototype, will nevertheless have to settle for second place in the final standings, behind the sister car of Nino Vaccarella (the native son) and Toine Hezemans (photo below).
Meanwhile, Gérard Larrousse, sharing his Porsche 908/03 Martini with Vic Elford, drove a strong race and fought for the win, but was forced to retire on lap 7. It was therefore a year for Alfa Romeo, who achieved a fine one-two finish, while the absence of the factory Ferraris was notable.
