Philippe Alliot, pictured above at the wheel of his Larrousse Lola LC88-Ford Cosworth DFZ 3.5 V8, at the 1988 Portuguese Grand Prix on the Estoril circuit. Bad luck this time for the French driver, who was forced to retire on lap 7 with a broken engine.

In the 1988 Formula 1 season, the Larrousse Calmels team entered two Larrousse Lola LC88s for Yannick Dalmas and Philippe Alliot, but Aguri Suzuki and Pierre-Henri Raphanel each did one race as a replacement for Dalmas, who was ill.

The competition is fierce and the team owned by Gérard Larrousse and Didier Calmels is struggling to achieve results, with only the top six scoring points and Yannick Dalmas doing well to finish seventh, but out of the points, in Monaco (photo below) and Detroit, while Philippe Alliot finished ninth in Belgium and Japan.
