James Hunt, in an orange racing suit, leans over his Hesketh 308 before the start of the 1974 BRDC International Trophy race at Silverstone on April 7, 1974. Also visible is Mike Hailwood’s Marlboro-liveried McLaren M23.
This 26th edition of the BRDC International Trophy was a non-championship race which welcomed Formula 1 cars, but also F5000 single-seaters.
James Hunt, who had yet to win a Grand Prix, went on to win this prestigious race from pole position, while Jochen Mass finished second in his Surtees and Jean-Pierre Jarier third in a Shadow. The first F5000, Peter Gethin’s Chevron-Chevrolet, was in seventh position.
