Jack Brabham (Brabham BT26-Cosworth) leads Jacky Ickx (Ferrari 312) during the famous 1968 Gold Cup race at Oulton Park (photo above). Note the high wings, some higher than others, which all the teams were experimenting with.

The Gold Cup was an important, non-championship Formula 1 event, that attracted the majority of teams participating in the World Championship. In August 1968, for example, Ferrari entered three 312s for Chris Amon, Jacky Ickx, and Derek Bell (photo below), while Matra was represented by Jackie Stewart, and Brabham was there with Jochen Rindt and team boss, Jack Brabham.

The thrilling race was won by Jackie Stewart (Matra MS10-Cosworth) ahead of Chris Amon (Ferrari 312) and Jackie Oliver (Lotus-Cosworth). Jack Brabham and Jacky Ickx, mentioned earlier, were both forced to retire due to mechanical problems.
