When the big boss visits his troops: Gianni Agnelli, president of the FIAT group, encourages his driver Stefan Johansson under the watchful eye of sporting director Marco Piccinini, before the start of the 1985 Italian Grand Prix, at the Autodrómo di Monza.

However, the Ferraris did not particularly shine on home soil during qualifying: Michele Alboreto was seventh on the grid, but 1.3s behind poleman Ayrton Senna and his Lotus-Renault, while Stefan Johansson qualified tenth.

There was no major improvement in the race for the men in red, as Johansson finished fifth, one lap behind the winner, Alain Prost, while Alboreto’s engine failed on lap 45… the fans returned home disappointed, as the Italian seemed to be the Frenchman’s main rival for the title.

Alboreto won in Canada and Germany, finished on the podium no less than seven times, but could do nothing against the domination of Alain Prost and his McLaren-TAG who, with five victories and six podiums, dominated the championship and finally obtained his first world title.

No victory for Stefan Johansson however, the Swede finished second in Canada and Detroit, but could only do seventh in the championship, while Ferrari finished second behind McLaren in the constructors’ championship.
