“Bye, Enzo Osella”
Enzo Osella, who passed away at the age of 86, was born on August 26, 1939, in Cambiano, Italy. Enzo, founder of a racing team that bears his name, based in Volpiano, competed in the Formula 1 World Championship for a decade, starting in 1980.
Piercarlo Ghinzani , who was Osella’s F1 driver in 1981 (pictured above with Enzo Osella), wrote on his blog: “It is with great regret that I learned of the passing of Enzo Osella. With him, I started in Formula 1 in 1981, and then we found ourselves for other seasons together in F1, where we experienced heroic and dramatic moments.”
“I remember him as a huge fan of racing and engines, and I saw him make huge sacrifices in his business to be able to continue racing. A straight and honest man. Bye Enzo.”
The Osella will participate in a total of 132 Grand Prix, score 5 championship points only, at the time where only the first six would score points, and always on a shoe-string budget. The approach of a very passionate man, definitely.
