Didier Pironi joins Tyrrell

In 1978, Didier Pironi joined the ELF Team Tyrrell where he continued to learn the ropes of F1, next to fellow Frenchman Patrick Depailler, the team leader. While Depailler won the Monaco Grand Prix at the wheel of the competitive Tyrrell 008-Ford and obtained a few podium finishes, Pironi was more discreet, showed flashes of brilliance, scored 7 points and finishes 15th in the championship. He’s retained by Ken Tyrrell for the 1979 season and is joined by fast fellow Frenchman, Jean-Pierre Jarier.
