Manfred von Brauchitsch drifts his Mercedes W154, at the 1938 German Grand Prix held on the old Nürburgring. Can you imagine the thrill of being a spectator, watching these mighty machines at full speed on the Ring, in those days?
von Brauchitsch (1905-2003) was a German racing car driver who drove for Mercedes-Benz in the famous “Silver Arrows” in the 1930s. He won three Grand Prix – the 1934 ADAC Eifelrennen, the 1937 Monaco Grand Prix (considered his greatest victory) and the 1938 French Grand Prix. He was twice runner-up in the European Championship, in 1937 and 1938, and finished third in 1935.
