Lewis Hamilton has valid reasons to feel robbed, and Max Verstappen is, according to me, a very worthy World Champion. The Brit was easily leading the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and should have won. The seven-time World Champion and his Mercedes, were the class of the field, and were seemingly unbeatable, until the story with the safety car and the confusion that followed. It must be heart-breaking for Lewis Hamilton to lose the title in this manner. He handled his defeat with dignity, all credit to the great champion.
Michael Masi and his stewards took the decision they felt they had to take ‘in the heat of the moment’, and it turned out to be in favour of Max Verstappen. All year long tough, the Dutch driver, his entourage and the Red Bull team, complained most of the decisions taken by the stewards, were against them. Well, this last episode, proves them wrong, there was no conspiracy, and although I don’t agree with some decisions and sanctions taken this year, I do not believe the FIA ever chose sides this year.
Of course, a red flag instead of a safety car, and a new start on fresh tires for Max and Lewis, would have given us a fantastic five lap battle, but the result is what it is. Max Verstappen and the Red Bull team, did a tremendous job all year, without forgetting Honda, and absolutely deserve the World Drivers’ Title. The Constructors’ crown going to Mercedes-Benz, which is a beautiful trophy, a great achievement for Toto Wolf and his troops, and a decent consolation.
Max Verstappen is a fantastic driver, a prodigy, like rarely seen in motorsport history. His speed, commitment, bravery, the thrill he brings to every corner, every race are second to none. A driver so exciting to watch, he’s a gift for the Formula One and its fans. And everybody welcomes the 2021 World Champion.
I can only respect your opinion. I agree with tou on max skills. But the way he handles close fight is dirty.
Concerning Masi decision, it was not his call to décide the rule to apply to à situation well known. The purpose of rules is predictability. You don’t change them because the outcome doesn’t suit the public. It is a sport first.
