Welch racing driver Tom Pryce, was sensational when he captured third place in qualifying in his un-fancied Shadow DN8, just two-tenths behind pole man Ronnie Peterson (March) and James Hunt (McLaren), at the 1976 Dutch Grand Prix held at Zandvoort.

In the race, nobody could stop championship contender James Hunt, who narrowly edged out Clay Regazzoni (Ferrari) and Mario Andretti (Lotus). Tom Pryce (Shadow) showed once again his speed and race craft by finishing in an excellent fourth place, just 6.94 seconds behind the winner.

Sadly the promising Welch driver, seen here-below at the Nürburgring in 1976, was killed in an accident at the 1977 South-African Grand Prix at Kyalami, before he could demonstrate even more of his great potential in a top team.
