Mario Andretti won the 1969 Indianapolis 500. Polesitter A.J. Foyt led the race in early stages until a broken manifold put him many laps down. Lloyd Ruby was then leading the race after midpoint, but lost a lot of time in a pitstop. The incident put Mario Andretti in the lead for the rest of the way. It will be Mario’s first and ultimately only win at the Indy 500.
