Brett Lunger was born 14 November 1945. A very good racing driver but also as a Vietnam War veteran, a political science graduate of Princeton University, a journalist, an author and pilot: quite an all-rounder.
The American is also known for helping to rescue and saving Niki Lauda from his burning Ferrari in the 1976 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring.
Brett Lunger raced in Formula One from 1975 to 1978 for the Hesketh, Surtees, March, McLaren (private entry) and Ensign teams. In 43 Grand Prix entries (34 starts) he did not score any championship points. The American was also a frontrunner and race winner in the F5000 (picture-below) and in endurance racing.
