The 1982 Swiss Grand Prix was held at Dijon-Prenois (France) on 29 August 1982. This was the first World Championship Swiss Grand Prix since 1954 (despite it not being held in Switzerland), and the last running of the event to date. Switzerland had banned motor racing after the 1955 Le Mans disaster.

The race was won by Finn Keke Rosberg (picture above) driving a Williams-Ford. Alain Prost, starting from pole, finished second in a Renault, while Niki Lauda was third in a McLaren-Ford.

This was the only win of the season for eventual World Champion Keke Rosberg, in a season full of dramas (the accidents of Villeneuve and Pironi) and uncertainties, where none of the leading drivers won more than two races.

Rosberg battled all season relentlessly in his atmospheric and underpowered, but more reliable Williams FW08-Cosworth, against the turbo engines powering the Ferraris and the Renaults.

To celebrate the victory, Frank Williams gave Rosberg two days off from testing, and allowed him, for once to smoke in the mobile home! Other times…
