Andrea de Cesaris (1959 – 2014) était un bon et téméraire pilote de course. Victime d’une série d’accidents en début de carrière dûs à un excès de fougue, il eut rapidement la réputation d’être rapide et un peu fou, mais l’accident ci-dessus à Silverstone en 1991 n’était pas de sa faute, mais plutôt le résultat d’un bris de suspension sur sa Jordan 191-Ford.
L’Italien a pris 208 départs en Formule 1, mais ne s’est jamais imposé, quoiqu’il soit passé bien près à plusieurs occasions comme à Monaco en 1982 et à Spa en 1991 (photo ci-dessous), ce qui lui valut le record du pilote ayant pris le plus de départs en Grand Prix sans jamais l’emporter, un record par la suite battu par Nico Hülkenberg au Grand Prix de Miami en 2024.
