From 1976 on, Jacky Ickx (picture above) was a factory driver for Porsche and their new turbocharged race cars, the 935 (evolution of the 911) and especially the 936 sports car, which he drove to wins at Le Mans three times. These drives, his victory in 1977 as well as the losing effort in 1978, often in the rain and at night, were some of the finest ever.

The 935 and 936 were unveiled to select members of the press at Weissach in the second week of March 1976. The four works drivers were in attendance: Jacky Ickx, Jochen Mass, Rolf Stommelen and Manfred Schurti.

Porsche, managed by engineer Norbert Singer, thus competing on all fronts, in Group 5 with the 935 and in Group 6 with the 936 won both World Titles and the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Ickx and van Lennep.
