French driver Philippe Alliot (picture above) replaced the suspended Mika Hakkinen at McLaren-Peugeot for the 1994 Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix.

McLaren were not happy with the announcement that their lead driver, Finn Mika Hakkinen, was receiving a one race ban for causing a crash on the first lap of the German Grand Prix. To partner second driver Martin Brundle, Ron Dennis, pressed by Peugeot, chose Frenchman Philippe Alliot, who qualified in 14th position but was forced to retire on lap 21, because of a water leak to his engine.

The race was won from pole position by Michael Schumacher, driving a Benetton-Ford. It was his seventh win of the season. Schumachers’ main championship rival, Damon Hill, finished second in a Williams-Renault, with Jos Verstappen (Max’ father) third in the other Benetton-Ford.
