The Tourist Trophy or TT originated in 1905 on the Isle Of Man as a race for touring cars, but the best remembered period in its history is the seven years span between 1958 and 1964 when the venue was the Goodwood circuit in West Sussex.

The 1963 Tourist Trophy was the last one held at Goodwood solely for GT cars. This was the golden era of GT racing when Aston Martins, Ferrari GTO’s, Jaguar E-Type’s and Shelby AC Cobras vied for honours in the larger capacity class.

The best drivers of the era, including most of the Formula One stars, did not hesitate to compete in the TT.  For example, the 1963 entry list included (as seen on the picture):

Graham Hill, Ferrari 250 GTO #11 (winner), Mike Parkes, Ferrari 250 GTO #12 (second), Innes Ireland, Aston Martin DP214 #2 (7th), Bruce McLaren, Aston Martin DP214 #1 (ret), Roy Salvadori, Jaguar E Type Lightweight #9 (3rd), Roger Penske, Ferrari 250 GTO NART #15 (8th).
