For his first win of the season, Simon Pagenaud started last on the grid of the short oval of the Iowa Speedway, after a fuel pressure problem that prevented him to set a time in qualifying.

After a fantastic race, he crossed the line 250 laps later with just one second advantage on Scott Dixon at an average speed of 212 km/h. Pagenaud recaptures the second position in the standings.

Simon Pagenaud: “Wow, it was tough. What a night. What a day it has been for us. The qualifying was a heart brake, but my guys never give up. That’s what this team is all about. Incredible. Shining in the Menards car, here in Iowa, it’s fantastic. Obviously, we had the pace. I can’t believe it. I need to watch the race, how did I succeed? I don’t know, the 50 last laps were very tensed. When you are chased by (Scott) Dixon, you can’t afford a single mistake. It was not easy in traffic. It’s an incredible team effort, it feels so good to win again. Indy will always be the top, but this one is not bad at all.”

It’s Simon’s 15th IndyCar victory and the first one on the oval of Iowa.
