René Arnoux secured pole position for the 1983 British Grand Prix. The Frenchman, in the new Ferrari 126C3, set a blistering pace at Silverstone, lapping 0.7 seconds faster than team mate Patrick Tambay, who made it an all-Ferrari front row.

It was the 18th and final pole position in Formula One for the fast French driver.

The 67-lap race was won by Alain Prost (Renault), after he started from third position. Arnoux couldn’t manage better than fifth (picture below), while Tambay finished on the podium (3rd), behind Nelson Piquet in a Brabham-BMW (2nd).

René Arnoux participated in 162 Formula One Grand Prix, winning 7 of these and scoring 22 podium finishes. Watch Arnoux’ very particular driving position (picture below).
