The 1972 24 Hours of Spa were held on the Circuit National de Francorchamps (14.100 km long) on 22-23rd of July 1972. It was round 5 of the European Touring Car Championship.
Picture above: the Alpina BMW 2800 CS of Gerold Pankl and Helmut Kelleners at La Source in the pouring rain. It was forced to retire after 28 laps only, because of a broken engine.
Rain poured for most of the race, and the Ford Capris RS 2600 of Mass-Stuck, Birrell-Bougoignie (picture below), and Glemser-Soler-Roig dominated and scored a fantastic triple for the Cologne marque. The Schnitzer 2800 CS of Fitzpatrick-Peltier-Ethuin finished fourth and best of the BMW’s.
