After launching the Lancia Beta Montecarlo Groupe 5 at the end of the 80’s, Cesare Fiorio jumped into an ambitious Groupe 6 programme for Lancia in the World Makes Championship of 1982.

The pretty Lancia LC1 was a really nice and fast race car, enabling Riccardo Patrese to fight for the endurance world championship till the last race, in the Brands Hatch rain, before narrowly losing the crown to the Porsche 956 of Jacky Ickx.

For 1983, in order to comply to the new Group C regulation, the open LC1’s (picture above) were modified in coupes named LC2 (picture here-under) for the endurance world championship and for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Unfortunately, these were not very successful, not even in the following seasons 1984 and 1985, with one victory only at Spa for Wollek-Baldi, in a shortened race due to the fatal accident of Stefan Bellof.
