Hockenheim 1992. In a race dominated by Nigel Mansell in his all-conquering Williams FW14b, home favorite Michael Schumacher in his Benetton B192-Ford scored a first podium in a German Grand Prix.

Nigel Mansell qualified on pole ahead of team-mate Riccardo Patrese and Ayrton Senna in a McLaren-Ford. Schumacher was sixth (+3.172 from pole) but one full second faster than team-mate Brundle who started 9th.

At the start, Mansell took an early lead from teammate Patrese and Ayrton Senna in third. Schumacher steadily climbed his way up to fourth until on the last lap Patrese spun off while trying to pass Senna for second position.

Mansell held on to victory on his way to the world title, ahead of Senna whose McLaren ran out of fuel shortly after crossing the finish line, and Michael Schumacher in third.
