Mario Andretti, seen here racing side-by-side with his son Michael at Indianapolis in 1992, once said: “Determination can make you do things that, at night, you sit back in the hotel room and think, ‘Oh my gosh, what did I get away with today?“.
The American driver, a legend of motorsport, 1969 Indy 500 winner and 1978 World champion, certainly considers himself lucky to have survived this era of motorsport where safety of the drivers was minimal.
He added: “Those who survived this era of motor racing, can consider themselves as lucky. We were racing every week-end in different series, and we lost many friends along the way.”
