Robert Kubica, driving a BMW Sauber F1.06, became the first Polish driver to finish on the podium in Formula One, with a 3rd place finish in only his third Grand Prix (picture-above), at the 2006 Italian Grand Prix held at Monza. It was a great moment for the Polish driver, who at the age of 14, had moved to Italy to compete in karting, where he became the first foreigner to win the International Junior Karting Championship.

The Italian Grand Prix was the fifteenth race of the 2006 Formula One season, and was won by Michael Schumacher driving for the Scuderia Ferrari. Second was Kimi Raïkkonen in his McLaren-Mercedes.

Between 2006 and 2009, Robert Kubica drove for the BMW Sauber F1 team, promoted from test to race driver in the second half of 2006. In June 2008, Kubica took his maiden and only Formula One victory at the Canadian Grand Prix (picture-below), led the championship at one stage, before finishing fourth overall, his best career position.
