Kissing the wall…

“There are two categories of drivers at Indianapolis, it is said to the rookies at the drivers’ briefings on the Speedway. Those who went into the wall and… the ones who will go into the wall !”

Nelson Piquet made this bitter experience in qualifying for the 1992 500 Miles, when he violently hurt the wall and badly broke both legs… bad fractures that still, nowadays, prevent him to walk easily. Piquet Sr returned to the Speedway one year later, and then resumed his career in Touring Cars and in GT with BMW.
