Duct tape Ferrari
The 1971 Daytona 24 Hours was won by Pedro Rodriguez and Jackie Oliver in the J.W. Automotive Engineering-entered Gulf Porsche 917K. Second were Americans Bucknum and Adamowicz in a NART-entered Ferrari 512S, one lap behind.
Picture above: This is what remains of the Sunoco Penske Ferrari 512M of Mark Donohue and David Hobbs in the closing stages of the 1971 Daytona 24 Hours. The pair managed to salvage third place at the finish.
Asked about the quantity of tape on his car, David Hobbs, with typical British humor answered : “You’re not really a racing driver unless your car is at least 12% duct tape at the end of the race.”
