Bruno Giacomelli moved into Formula 2 in 1977, working in close relationship with Robin Herd and the March factory team. He was instantly fast.

He managed to score three F2 wins and finished fifth in the championship. He also made his Formula One debut in a third works McLaren M23-Cosworth at Monza, retiring with an engine problem which caused him to spin off.

This first Formula One race at Monza meant a lot for the young Italian, he recalls: “The first Italian Grand Prix I saw was 1968, when Denny Hulme won for McLaren: coincidentally the team I debuted in Formula One nine years later, in 1977.”

“I’ve always been passionate about racing. Since after Lorenzo Bandini died, for whom by the way I cried for three days, I know everything about racing. I have been and am a huge enthusiast.
