Clay Regazzoni and Niki Lauda were team-mates at BRM in 1973. They are seen here-above on the pit wall at Monza, just before the Italian Grand Prix.

Obviously, and although the races were long and the cars hard to drive, no power steering, manual gearbox…, fitness and physical preparation were not the first priority for the drivers these days!

When Enzo Ferrari contacted the Swiss asking him to return to the Scuderia for the 1974 season, Regazzoni advised him to take the Austrian as second driver. History was in the making.
