The 1973 Italian Grand Prix was held at Monza on 9 September 1973. It was race 13 of 15 in both drivers’ and constructors’ F1 championships. The 55-lap race was won from pole position by Ronnie Peterson, driving a Lotus 72, with teammate Emerson Fittipaldi, a close second.

Jackie Stewart, Tyrrell-Ford 006 (picture above), suffered a puncture early in the race which dropped him to 20th, but charged through the field to finish fourth, which might have been one of the very best drives of his career, to secure his third Drivers’ Championship.

The race also saw Jacky Ickx’s last drive for Ferrari (picture below). Ickx qualified his 312B3 14th and finished eighth, a lap down on Peterson. It was a difficult season for the Scuderia, the 312B3, built in England by Thompson, was less competitive than the B2 it replaced, and the team scored 12 points only.
