Formula 1 observers noticed Martin Brundle’s efforts in the uncompetitive Brabham-Yamaha in 1991, and when he succeeded to score two points, the last ones in the history of Brabham, he was asked to join the very promising Michael Schumacher at Benetton for the 1992 F1 season.

Under Flavio Briatore’s flamboyant leadership, 1992 was a season of strong progress for the Benetton team. Michael Schumacher took his first Grand Prix victory at Spa and finished third in the championship behind the dominating Williams’ of Mansell and Patrese, while Martin Brundle scored 5 podiums (third in Australia, picture-below) and ended sixth in the standings. Benetton finished third in the Constructors’ Championship.
