Japanese racing driver Takuma Sato scores his first F1 points by finishing an excellent 5th, on board of the Jordan-Honda EJ12, in front of his home crowd, at the 2002 Japanese Grand Prix, held at Suzuka (picture above).

Takuma Sato competed in Formula One from 2002 to 2008 for the Honda-powered Jordan, BAR and Super Aguri teams, scoring a single podium at the 2004 US Grand Prix. His 8th place finish in the 2004 Formula One Drivers’ Championship is the best-ever result for a Japanese driver in the series.

Sato earned himself the reputation of being fast, fearless … and accident prone, but his speed and commitment were very much appreciated by the F1 community and the fans.

The Japanese driver has raced full time in the IndyCar Series since 2010 for the Honda powered Rahal, KV, Foyt and Andretti teams. Sato wrote history by winning the 2017 Indianapolis 500, becoming the first Asian driver to win the Indy 500. Three years later, he won for Rahal Letterman Lanigan (RLL) the 2020 Indy 500 for the second time (picture below).
