In his debut season (1984) for Ferrari, Michele Alboreto took victory in the third round at Zolder, becoming the first Italian driver to win a Formula One race for Ferrari since Ludovico Scarfiotti won the 1966 Italian Grand Prix.

A fantastic achievement for the discrete Alboreto, who like most drivers, always dreamed of becoming a Ferrari driver, and win races in a red car. The picture above was taken at Brands Hatch by Ercole Colombo.

The Italian finished on the podium a further three times in 1984: at the Österreichring where he finished third, in front of the delighted tifosi at Monza where he finished second, and again excellent second at the Nürburgring.

Michele Alboreto finished the 1984 season in fourth with 30.5 points, the half point coming from his sixth place at the Monaco Grand Prix, which was shortened due to heavy rain.
