In 1967, the Targa Florio was still part of the very important World Championship for Makes, although it was the last of the giant road races remaining, after the Mille Miglia and the Carrera Panamericana were banned, because judged too dangerous.
That’s the reason why the genial Jim Hall entered the Chaparral 2F for Phil Hill and Hap Sharp (seen here at the wheel) in this legendary race, on the tortuous 72 km (!) long circuit of Madonia.
In order to reach the starting grid, the huge American car with its enormous rear wing, had to find its way through traffic in between the little Fiat 500…
The Chaparral was fourth in the standings with two laps to go, but was forced to retire when one of the drivers hit a wall, but what an adventure!
