A442, the yellow arrow

The Alpine Renault A442 is a race car that was conceived in 1975 by French constructor Renault to compete in endurance racing. It has a tubular chassis and is powered by a 1996cc turbocharged V6 engine developing about 500bhp.

Picture above: The pretty Alpine A442 of Jean-Pierre Jarier and Gérard Larrousse, at the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen 1975, which finished third. At the time, Jarier was a Shadow driver in Formula One, which explains the UOP sticker on his helmet.

Alfa Romeo won the 1975 World Championship for Makes with the 33TT12 entered by Willi Kaushen. For Renault, it was a year of learning and development, which will ultimately lead to victory at the 1978 Le Mans 24 Hours, with Didier Pironi and Jean-Pierre Jaussaud.
