In 1960, the young American Lance Leventlow had entered the first Formula One car made in the USA. In its first appearance at the Monaco Grand Prix, this front engined (an Offenhauser 4 cylinder from the IndyCar series) race car, failed to qualify: even Stirling Moss, futur winner of the Grand Prix in a Rob walker entered Lotus 18, would take its wheel (picture below) without succeeding to really perform.

The team of the heir of Barbara Hutton will persevere all through the European season without any good result, while the second driver of the team Chuck Daigh finished 10th in his home Grand Prix at Riverside in this beautiful desert scenery (picture above): it was to be the last appearance of the Scarab and the end of the front-engined F1 cars.
