Stirling Moss (photo above), at the wheel of the superb Camoradi-entered Maserati Tipo 61, he shared with Graham Hill at the 1961 Sebring 12 Hours. The Tipo 61 was called “Birdcage” because of the particular shape and structure of it’s tubular chassis.

Moss had a bad start due to his Maserati Tipo 61 having problems starting as the battery was flat. It took the Englishman over six minutes to coax the car into life. However, after driving flat out for two hours (picture below), he handed the car over to Graham Hill, but on the third hour, the exhaust system fell apart, and they retired the car.

After 12 Hours of racing, the race was won by the works Ferrari 250 TRI of Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien, two laps clear of their teammates Baghetti, Mairesse and Ginther.
