Not satisfied to be considered as an authentic ‘Ringmeister’, for the flair he always showed at the great Nürburgring, Jacky Ickx was also a real ‘Rain Master’, thanks to his capacity to walk on water, especially at … Eau Rouge!

In 1968, he produced an incredible performance during the 1000 km of Spa, escaping from the rest of the field at the start in his Ford GT40 (picture above) under the pouring rain, lapping so much faster than anybody else, leaving everybody far behind.

But one year earlier (picture here-under), he had already made a similar exploit in a Mirage entered by the same John Wyer team, lapping so fast that he pushed Belgian Willy Mairesse to make a mistake and destroy his Ferrari 412P entered by Écurie Francorchamps, while trying to follow him in these slippery conditions…
