The Gold Cup was a non-world championship race on the short track of Oulton Park, next to Manchester, in the 60s and always attracted a high quality field, witness this image featuring Jack Brabham, Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver in 1968.
The first two will have to retire in the race (oil leak for the Australian veteran, and ignition problem for the Belgian rookie), leaving victory to Jackie Stewart in the Matra MS10, in front of Chris Amon (picture below) in the second Ferrari 312 and Olivers’ Lotus 49.
