Polish driver Robert Kubica made his Grand Prix debut for BMW Sauber at the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix, replacing Canadian Jacques Villeneuve, who was still recovering from an accident at the German Grand Prix, two weeks earlier.

He finished 7th and scored two points, but was later disqualified as his car was found to be underweight due to excessive tire wear. But the Pole showed his speed and did enough to seduce the whole team, and the next day BMW Sauber announced that Villeneuve would be replaced by Kubica for the rest of the season.

Kubica is seen here-above leading David Coulthard (Red Bull) who finished 5th and team-mate Nick Heidfeld who scored a fine podium with a third place finish (the first podium for BMW-Sauber).

Jenson Button (picture here-under) won this 2006 Hungarian GP driving a Honda, the first Grand Prix victory of his career, leading Pedro de la Rosa in a McLaren-Mercedes, who also scored the best result of his Formula One career, and Nick Heidfeld (BMW-Sauber).
