Tradition: milk!

After starting in F3 in Italy and Japan, Jacques Villeneuve had a flawless run across the Atlantic in Formula Atlantic first, then in IndyCar from 1994 on. In 1995, he dominated  the CART championship and even won the notorious 500 Miles of Indianapolis, coming back from 2 laps down because of a penalty, and drinking milk on “Victory Lane” following the tradition.

This triumph opened for him the doors of Formula 1 wide open and he started testing as early as in the summer of 1995, with a very intensive private testing programme in a sponsorless Williams, because of conflicting commercial interests between two cigarette brands (Player’s on his IndyCar Reynard and Rothmans on the F1 Williams). This enabled him to practice for thousands of miles before his first Grand Prix at Melbourne in 1996, where he captured pole position at his first attempt.
