Peter Collins and Mike Hawthorn congratulate Juan-Manuel Fangio (centre) on what is considered to be his greatest drive, his heroic victory, aboard the Maserati 250F, at the 1957 German Grand Prix, when with a deficit of 48 sec, he against all odds, caught and defeated the Ferrari’s of his two British rivals, on the mighty 22 km long Nürburgring circuit.
After the race, Fangio commented, “I have never driven that quickly before in my life and I don’t think I will be able to do it again.”
Juan Manuel Fangio went on to secure the 1957 drivers world title, his fifth and last title.
