A very furtive 911

The first Jordan F1 car appeared in January 1991 and the Irish manager called it “911” for 91 and for Formula 1. The problem was that Porsche held the rights for the 911 denomination!

The German constructor, of course reacted, and the car became Jordan 191, not without a compensation for the cunning Eddie, who negotiated for himself a brand new Porsche 911, as a gesture of goodwill.

Bertrand Gachot is seen here at the wheel of the still carbon-black car, for its very first laps at Silverstone, the 911 logo still very visible.

The Jordan 191 will later adopt a very beautiful Irish green colour to suit main sponsor 7Up, and is still considered to this day as one of the prettiest cars in history. This car incidentally became the first F1 car for a certain… Michael Schumacher (picture below).
