The 1970 Targa Florio was a confrontation between Porsche, Ferrari and Alfa Romeo. For this event, Porsche introduced their new car, the light and nimble 908/3, which was perfectly suited for this road course.

Ferrari entered a sole Ferrari 512S (picture) for Sicilian hero Nino Vaccarella and Ignazio Giunti, while Alfa Romeo entered a T33/3 for Piers Courage and Andrea de Adamich.

The two John Wyer Automotive Porsche 908/03 dominated the event and scored a fantastic 1-2 for Porsche. Siffert/Redman won the race followed by the sister car of Kinnunen/Rodriguez (who was sick during the biggest part of the race).

Nevertheless, there was some consolation for the Italian fans. Sicilian Nino Vaccarella finished third, while the sole Alfa Romeo T33/3 (picture below) failed to finish due to a crash.
